Atascadero, CA Area Guide

Atascadero, which comes from the Spanish name meaning “a place of much water”, is a family oriented community located in the heart of the Central Coast. It is a wonderful halfway stop between San Francisco and Los Angeles and also between the well-known wine tasting communities of Paso Robles and the Edna Valley. Atascadero’s comfortable climate is influenced by the beautiful Pacific Ocean on the West, and also by the Salinas River and open countryside to the East, offering a blend of natural beauty and rural lifestyle.

Atascadero may have a small-town feel, but it is buzzing with new business and a resurging downtown and economy. Several must-see attractions in Atascadero include the Charles Paddock Zoo, Lake Park, and Chalk Mountain Golf Course, as well as many other beautiful parks and convenient shopping centers. The Atascadero area was originally home to the Salinas Indians.
